National Will Register Certainty

Following its successful launch in March 2008, the Certainty Will Register celebrates a resounding success on its first birthday. Several hundred firms of solicitors are already on board as members and in excess of 750,000 Will registrations are already allocated.

Certainty.co.uk invested £1.5m in a 2-year research and development programme prior to its launch to the legal profession. The register provides an intelligent search facility and gives law firms the ability to search for lost or missing Wills on behalf of their clients. Exclusively for the benefit of the legal profession, Certainty’s public facing ‘Find a Will Writing Solicitor’ enquiry service can be found at the memorably named www.certainty.co.uk.

The Certainty Will Register employs the services of key legal figures as advisors and indeed its chairman is a past Law Society President. This has ensured that law firms can take advantage of a unique combination of resources and benefits designed to generate profit for solicitors, enhance best practice and benefit clients and their families.

Certainty’s chairman and past Law Society President Kevin Martin says, “Certainty is probably the most advanced Will Register in the world. I joined Certainty because I realised it had taken an old idea (a Wills Register), grabbed it by the scruff of the neck and turned it into something that produces enormous benefits for Wills and Probate professionals. Kevin adds,” I do understand how difficult things are at present – the credit crunch, depressed property market, the impending Legal Services Act and stark warnings about technology taking over most law firm’s functions. What better time to strengthen and develop that part of your firm which may well be the jewel in the crown – the private client department. Steal a march on unqualified will-writers, be on the front foot, make Wills and estate administration exciting and rewarding.”

There have been several attempts by other companies to set up a register of this nature in the past but as Gill Steel, of LawSkills states, “The Certainty Will Register is not just a Wills Register. It has put together a useful Will marketing and management tool for members which in an increasingly fragmented and difficult market may help firms acquire new Will clients and preserve existing ones”.

Registration of a Will with the Certainty Will Register takes just 60 seconds. It meets all required legislation and data protection requirements. All Wills held in a firm’s office can be registered free of charge.
