    She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) UK Practice Committee and the Association of Taxation Technicians.

    After hours: Gill loves the challenge of new things – currently that means discovering gluten free and lactose free recipes to enjoy; short breaks where you can fly from Southampton Airport and setting herself the challenge to make 60 the new 40!

    Sue is Gill’s Personal Assistant and is the first point of contact for LawSkills enquiries and clients.

    As Gill’s right hand woman since 1998, Sue has become an indispensable member of the team with responsibilities ranging from bookkeeping, marketing, client liaison, preparing course materials to managing the website and organising Gill’s busy diary and travel arrangements.

    ‘We all work very much as a team here and it’s a tremendously rewarding environment; it’s inspiring to know that I can help make a difference at LawSkills. As the business has gone from strength to strength my duties have become increasingly varied – which I really enjoy.’

    After hours: Sue is an avid golfer, enjoying the competition and challenge of playing to her handicap.  When she’s not on the golf course her down-time includes trying to shoehorn more plants into her small cottage garden, walking on the coast and in the countryside with a bit of bird-watching thrown in.

  • Helen Wood BA (Hons) MCILIP
    Helen Wood BA (Hons) MCILIP Librarian

    Helen has worked in librarianship for many years both for central Government and various law firms.

    She is responsible for maintaining up-to-the-minute awareness of the latest legal and tax developments and provides a constant flow of information in both hard copy and electronic form.  Helen administers a specialised in-house knowledge database, keeping the hard copy library up-to-date & managing online data & journal subscriptions.

    After hours: You’ll often find Helen huddled over a good book (the love of reading seems to be obligatory for Librarians!). She also enjoys eating out then working off the calories by going for long walks by the river.

    After spending several years working as a solicitor specialising in taxation, trusts and wills in leading London Private Client departments, Elizabeth worked as a professional support lawyer whilst raising her family. She enjoyed the challenges of both roles very much.

    Elizabeth now works as a freelance professional support lawyer and assists Gill in preparing articles, lectures and case summaries.

    After hours: Elizabeth enjoys gardening, walking and taking in Alpine scenery whilst attempting to ski.

    Gail Frankland BA(Hons) TEP

    Gail is a 19 year qualified solicitor with a broad range of experience having worked in the highly regarded tax trust and private client teams of both Knights in Staffordshire and Barker Gotelee in Suffolk, where she is currently an associate solicitor. The work Gail undertakes includes preparing Wills and succession planning, taxation and trusts and elderly client matters such as funding for care and powers of attorney.

    Gail also works as a freelance professional support lawyer and assists LawSkills in the preparation of lecture papers, articles, case summaries and book reviews.

    ‘I really enjoy my work with LawSkills and being part of such a talented team’.

    After hours: Gail juggles her busy career with raising her three children. She is also a volunteer with the Parish Signpost in Norfolk and a befriender for the Elfrida Society in London and is passionate about helping the elderly and vulnerable. Gail also enjoys sailing, gardening and most sports.

    Jennifer Hicks BA (Hons) TEP

    Jennifer has over 32 years post qualification experience as a solicitor working in Portsmouth having spent most of that time in the Succession and Tax Team of leading regional firm Blake Morgan. She has specialist experience in wills, probate, trusts and tax planning.

    Jennifer now works as a freelance professional support lawyer and assists LawSkills in the preparation of case summaries, lecture papers, webinar slides and book reviews.

    After hours: Jennifer enjoys yoga classes, sewing, gardening and dog walking. She has been a volunteer with Guide Dogs for the Blind for over 20 years and enjoys boarding both working guide dogs and puppies whose training needs to be kept up while their “puppywalker” families are away on holiday!

    Craig Killick

    Craig works as part of the team, consulting on web marketing. Having worked in the design and web industry on agency-side for many years, he has the understanding of how to maximise the Internet for the purposes of marketing.

    Craig’s passion is to make sure our content is maximised across the web using search engine optimisation, social media, e-mail marketing and the delivery of digital content.

    One of the biggest challenges with any website is good content. Luckily, the LawSkills website is full of great content and it’s my job to make sure the right people find it.’

    After hours: Craig has a young and active family and is also a keen cyclist when he gets the time – that is, when you can prize him away from his laptop computer!

    Jill is our video and audio podcast producer. She’s a broadcast journalist with many years experience at the BBC working in TV, radio and online media so she knows how to create multimedia content that is engaging, relevant and to the point.

    Her portfolio covers business and training films, event filming, plays and productions and DVD production.

    ‘Gill Steel is such a strong speaker and good at explanation that it makes my job so much easier.’

    After hours: Mum of two Jill plays the violin in an orchestra and tries to keep fit by taking part in running events like the Great South Run.

    Julie has worked as a freelance marketing manager on the client-side for over 15 years, primarily in technology businesses, so the legal sector is a new venture for her.

    She’s helped us fine-tune some of our marketing activities and is now working alongside us providing her consultancy services on a part-time basis’

    After hours: Julie recently moved to Hampshire and is busy making the most of village life as well as enjoying its close proximity to the beach. In her spare time she loves to read – anything from cookery books to thrillers – as well as take part in regular Pilates classes.
